The Duke
Since its premiere and sell-out run at the Pleasance in 2016 where it won The Scotsman’s Fringe First Award, THE DUKE has been performed at the Royal Court, Soho Theatre, Barbican and the Adelaide Festival and has been adapted for BBC Radio 4 and included on BBC’s Pick Of The Week – “genius stuff”. In 2018 THE DUKE was also nominated for a Prix Europa Radio Award and the show was highly commended in the ‘Sit Up and Act’ Awards for its services to charity.
Over the last two years, THE DUKE has raised over £50,000 for Save The Children helping child refugees around the world. Blending fantasy and reality, this funny and poignant show gently challenges our priorities in a world of full crisis. THE DUKE weaves together the tragi-comic fate of the family heirloom – a porcelain figure of The Duke of Wellington, the quandary of the script writer stretching his integrity, and an unfolding disaster as thousands of children flee their homes.
THE DUKE is performed by Shôn Dale-Jones, the creator of Hugh Hughes and award-winning shows, FLOATING, 360 and STORIES FROM AN INVISBLE TOWN.
